I want it to give a flavour of everything the book includes as well as tempting the reader, being beautiful, sumptuous, true to the story, and giving nothing of the actual characters away. And my expectations are always ridiculously high. So the cover provides one last area in which to get involved. This usually coincides with my last-minute attempts to improve the manuscript, to double check the copy edit, or trawl through the proofs, and with each rereading I become increasingly aware that very soon I'm going to have to accept that it is done. And never more so than when they are first shown to me. Like most authors, I'm passionate about the covers of my books. "Did you suggest me because I'm so unbelievably fussy?" I asked, thinking of a recent meeting to discuss the cover of my novel The Sea House, in which I'd vetoed the image (the second) on offer and demanded that a photographer go to the Suffolk village where the book was set and capture that very particular light that can be found in East Anglia and nowhere else! This decision is unfathomable and my heart goes out to and her wonderful team. Shocked to hear and this is a terrible blow to publishing in India and have published some amazing books and done stellar work. For books, #Amazon has nothing left to redeem itself now. If Amazon could be said to have done one worthwhile thing with #books, that was Westland-thanks to its excellent editors and several superb books they published. The editors are the best in India and they brought out the best and most hardhitting non-fiction you will see on the shelves. Westland is my publisher and did so much for me, taking a chance on a non-celeb author. Mypublisher closing professional#Publishing giants And & the many other incredibly warm and professional folk," Twitter user Aparna tweeted.
